Name: Courtney
Company: Boyd CAT
Title/Position: Rental Coordinator
Years working in construction: 14
What was your path to a career in construction? I began operating equipment when I was 23. I was primarily on a 953 Cat track loader doing residential work such as basements, grading yards, tree clearing, cutting driveways, and building ponds/lakes. In 2022 I made the decision to join Boyd and begin a career in the rental department.
What do you like most about working in construction? My favorite part of operating equipment was the art behind it. Taking a piece of ground and transforming it into a space for a new home, business, or whatever else was needed is something I feel you can take pride in. Construction is a necessary part in the growth of our communities and cities and it is really neat to drive past a finished jobsite being able to say you helped make it happen. As far as working in rental, I enjoy working with the customers and my previous experiences really help give advice and help guide them with what machine will be the most efficient for their needs.
This year’s theme is “Keys to the Future.” What is the key to the future of construction in Kentucky? Keeping alive the importance and the pride that comes from working in construction. Instilling in the younger generation the necessity and art of working with your hands while working toward improvements in our economy and state.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction, what would you say? You can do it, and you can do it well. It won’t always be easy, but you will be blessed with a rewarding career while getting the opportunity to do something you truly love.
