Name: Jessica M.
Company: Rame Contracting, LLC
Title/Position: Vice President
Years working in construction: 20
What was your path to a career in construction? I had a college professor pull me to the side and suggest I pursue Civil Engineering. At that time there was another girl in our community that was in the program. I reached out to her and she was very encouraging and the rest is history. My specific path to construction however was fueled by my love for the outdoors.
What do you like most about working in construction? I love the people. My co-workers and friends that I have gained in this industry are second to none. Plus watching something go from design on paper to built is very fulfilling.
This year’s theme is “Keys to the Future.” What is the key to the future of construction in Kentucky? PEOPLE! Especially good people which is what makes this industry second to none on what we can accomplish. Surround yourself with people that want to see you succeed and when you find yourself in a position to help someone else pay it forward!
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction, what would you say? I would tell them to go for it and don’t back down from expressing your thoughts. You are wanted and needed in construction!
