What was your path to a career in construction?
I started in Marketing at Boyd Company and during Covid, I took one some addition projects that lead me to work the VP of Energy and Transportation. When this position opened up, he sent me the opportunity, thinking I’d be a good fit. The first year was like drinking from a fire hose, learning all the processes everything I could and soaking up all the knowledge from the experts.
What do you like most about working in construction?
I love the opportunity to meet new people, building genuine relationships with them. Everyday is a little different, facing challenges and solving problems.
Have you seen changes for women in construction over the course of your career?
Yes, women have a unique opportunity to mold the path for a new generation of thinking, collaboration, and mentorship in the industry. Also, the women advocating for other women, creating an equal workforce.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction, what would you say?
I would tell young women not to be afraid to try new things, take risks and put themselves out there for opportunities. Have confidence, be yourself and have fun! Remember, empowered women, empower women!
