What was your path to a career in construction?
I have always been involved in some type of construction, Since I was little from plumbing, wiring, to building homes and setting foundations etc.. I have always been in some type of construction.
What do you like most about working in construction?
The challenges that each job has is different and each one requires common sense and
the ability to overcome obstacles as a team and come together for a common goal.
Have you seen changes for women in construction over the course of your career?
There is definitely room for improvement in equality when it comes to women being in the field of construction. It is still a male dominated industry, but it is improving little by little and eventually we’ll get to where it needs to be.
If you were to give young women (high schoolers) advice about beginning a career in construction, what would you say?
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something just because you’re a
woman. If you have the determination to succeed through trials and hardships you will
get where you want to be. You just keep pressing forward despite what others may say
to you, as their words and actions do not define who you are and what you are capable
of. You determine your self-worth that comes from you.
